Super Angel Gil Penchina @Startup Funding 2.0

"Ask Me Anything" with Gil Penchina at Startup Funding 2.0

We were privileged to have Gil Penchina at our second Startup Funding 2.0 event held at WeWork.

Gil runs the largest Syndicate on AngelList and is an angel investor in 70 companies including firms such as Linkedin, Paypal, Datanyze, Contactually, Indiegogo, Evite, ZipRealty, Plusmo, Couchsurfing, Songpop, Wealthfront and many others.

Previously he was CEO of Wikia, now a top 50 website and a member of the pre-IPO team at eBay. Before eBay, Gil worked at General Electric, Bain & Co. and started two tech companies.

Watch as Gil discusses: his various Syndicates, the emergence of deal scouts, how to access a Syndicate, average check size, meeting with Associates at VC funds, founders as "fundamentally un-employable anywhere else", what he looks for in a deal, when to take the leap of faith as an entrepreneur, how "running a startup is like a Ponzi scheme" and more.

A week ago we were at Jason Calacanis' startup conference LAUNCH listening to Shervin Pishevar and Brogan BamBrogan discuss their new HyperLoop (great names x2, BTW). We're funded!

We're funded!

I’m excited to announce we closed our seed round with an excellent group of investors.

ffVC.com led the round, and they are complemented by an awesome group of angels including Will Bunker, Steve Bennett, Sam Kingsland, Catherine Chang, Brad Bao, Santosh Jayaram, Philip Lo, Darren Wilson, Small Ventures, Foley Ventures and others.

This new funding will allow us to pursue our vision of bringing awesome tools to the world’s 400M+ entrepreneurs. Our investors are seasoned operators (ex- Facebook, Twitter, Tencent, and many others) and share our passion for helping startups.

Raising capital is always “harder than it looks” and we could not have done it without some serious help from our friends. I’d like to personally thank the following for their intros, inspiration, and advice:

But I stopped riding bikes around the time helmet laws came into effect and tight, bright spandex shorts became the norm. It just wasn't cool anymore.
